Kindred Hospital Las Vegas - Flamingo Opens New Acute Rehabilitation Unit

The 12-bed unit, located within the hospital, provides intensive rehabilitation therapy to advance patients’ recovery from injury or illness.

LAS VEGAS, NV (August 17, 2023) – Kindred Hospital Las Vegas - Flamingo today opened a new rehabilitation unit located inside the specialty hospital. The acute rehabilitation unit (ARU) helps adults who have experienced a loss of function or disability due to injury or illness.

The 12-bed ARU features newly renovated, all-private rooms for patients recovering from conditions that include stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury, orthopedic injury, neurological conditions, amputation, respiratory and pulmonary illness, and trauma. The new unit provides the intensive, interdisciplinary clinical and rehabilitation services necessary for improved function and independence, facilitating patients’ recovery so they can be discharged and return to their homes.

“This is a great day for our patients and others in the Las Vegas area who seek to recover and return home with the strength and ability needed to live more independently,” said Robin Hager, PharmD, Market CEO of the Kindred Hospitals in Las Vegas. “This inpatient rehabilitation service gives our hospital the ability to provide a broader range of acute-level, physician-led rehabilitation care while avoiding the disruption of transferring a patient to a separate facility. For our current patients, this continuum of care promises a quicker and more complete recovery. With these enhanced capabilities, expertise, and clinical integration – all under one roof – we can deliver better outcomes for the most clinically complex patients.”

The ARU features large interdisciplinary gyms, designated rooms for dining and activities, outdoor areas that allow patients to practice ambulating or meet with family and friends, and specialty programs dedicated to neuro, stroke, brain injury, and amputation.

“This investment in a new but complementary service line better positions Kindred Hospital Las Vegas - Flamingo to meet the healthcare needs of its existing patients and those of this community,” said Daniel Brywczynski, President of ScionHealth’s Specialty Hospital Division. “While rehabilitative therapies have always been a part of our specialty hospitals’ care plans, we continue to integrate separate, standalone rehabilitation units into our hospitals because they have been proven to advance our patients’ recoveries and at the same time, they help meet that particular market’s growing demand for inpatient rehabilitation services.”

At the Kindred Hospital Las Vegas - Flamingo ARU, an interdisciplinary team that includes physicians, nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, and other health professionals designs a treatment plan to help a patient restore lost ability and function. Intensive monitoring and therapy help these patients regain skills more quickly in a safe, controlled environment. The goal is to support patients while they recover, so they can return home and resume normal activities.

ARU patients receive a minimum of three hours of therapy each day for at least five days a week under the direction of a physiatrist, a doctor specialized in rehabilitation and physical medicine, and 24/7 nursing care. Services include physical, occupational, and speech therapy; physiatry, internal medicine, and medical/surgical consultations; rehabilitation nursing; nutritional services; and a dedicated pharmacy. The rehabilitation unit is available to Kindred Hospital Las Vegas - Flamingo patients as well as patients from other healthcare providers in the community.

The new ARU is managed and staffed by Lifepoint Rehabilitation, a business unit of Lifepoint Health. Lifepoint Rehabilitation is a trusted operator of more than 40 inpatient rehabilitation hospitals and 250 hospital-based rehabilitation units, medical/surgical and outpatient therapy settings nationwide.
