Two ScionHealth hospitals, Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center in Hartsville, South Carolina, and St. Francis - Emory Healthcare in Columbus, Georgia, have been named to Becker’s Hospital Review’s 2026 listing of “100 Great Community Hospitals.” The annual list recognizes a select group of hospitals nationwide for excellence in community-based care. Doug Shirley, who has served as ScionHealth’s Chief Financial Officer since April 2025, has been appointed Chief Executive Officer. Shirley brings more than 25 years of healthcare leadership experience, including financial strategy, operational improvement, and enterprise transformation across public, private, and nonprofit systems.

The National Association of Long Term Hospitals (NALTH) announced that ScionHealth, one of the nation’s leading providers of long-term acute care (LTACH) hospitals, has joined the association. ScionHealth’s membership significantly broadens NALTH’s national representation of LTACH hospitals and strengthens the industry’s unified voice at a time when medically complex patients face increasing barriers to accessing the specialized care they need.

ScionHealth has completed the sale of eight community hospitals to Lifepoint Health, marking a strategic transition that sharpens the company’s focus on specialty hospital services while maintaining a select community hospital presence.

ScionHealth Chief Executive Officer Rob Jay was again included on Becker’s Hospital Review’s 2026 list of Great Leaders in Healthcare. According to Becker’s, the Great Leaders list recognizes executives who “represent the best of the best in healthcare leadership. At its annual Caregiver Summit on October 1, ScionHealth announced three recipients of its 2025 Monarch Caring and Community Award, thehighest distinction awarded to its healthcare professionals.
