Kindred Hospital Houston Northwest Celebrates Ribbon Cutting for New Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit

HOUSTON, TX (August 17, 2022) – Kindred Hospital Houston Northwest celebrated a ribbon cutting today for its new rehabilitation unit constructed within the hospital, which is located at 11297 Fallbrook Drive. The acute rehabilitation unit (ARU), which begins accepting patients on September 1, will help adults who have experienced a loss of function or disability due to injury or illness.

The 12-bed ARU includes a new gym with state-of-the-art equipment used in rehabilitative therapies and features all private rooms for patients recovering from conditions that include stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury, orthopedic injury, neurological conditions, amputation and trauma. The new unit will provide the intensive, interdisciplinary clinical and rehabilitation services necessary for improved function and independence, facilitating patients’ recovery so they can be discharged and return to their homes.

“Adding a dedicated, acute-level rehabilitation unit to our hospital sets Kindred Hospital Houston Northwest apart,” said Tracy Kohler, CEO of the hospital. “This new service enables our facility to provide a broader range of acute-level, physician-led rehabilitation expertise while avoiding the disruption of transferring a patient to a separate facility. With enhanced capabilities, expertise and clinical integration – all under one roof – we are better positioned to deliver superior outcomes for our most clinically complex patients.”

Within the new ARU, an interdisciplinary team that includes physicians, nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists and other health professionals design a treatment plan to help a patient restore lost ability and function. The intensive therapy and monitoring that follow help patients regain skills more quickly in a safe, controlled environment. The goal is to support patients while they recover, so they can return home and resume normal activities.

Patients will receive a minimum of three hours of therapy each day for at least five days a week under the direction of a physiatrist − a doctor specialized in rehabilitation and physical medicine − and 24/7 nursing care. The rehabilitation unit will provide services to both Kindred Hospital Houston Northwest patients as well as patients from other healthcare providers in the community.

Kindred Hospital Houston Northwest is part of ScionHealth. The new units are managed and staffed by Kindred Rehabilitation Services − a business unit of LifePoint Health − which delivers clinical success and outstanding patient outcomes for hospital-based programs nationwide.
